Mail Order Vitamin Supplement
The Healthspan Group is a Guernsey-based company and is the parent company of Healthspan, operating as a mail-order health supplement retailer. The Healthspan Group employs around 450 people in Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and in a UK based call centre in Gosport and its headquarters are at Healthspan House in Guernsey.
History
Founded by Derek Coates in 1996as Healthspan Direct,Healthspan (renamed in February 2001) has grown to become the largest mail order retailer of vitamins and minerals in the United Kingdom
Healthy Direct acquisition
In 2008, the Healthspan Group acquired Healthy Direct, also a mail order retailer of health supplements based in Guernsey, for an undisclosed 8 figure sum. Together the two companies distribute more pills and vitamins than any other related business in the UK.
Vitamins & Supplements
Healthspan Limited ('Healthspan') is the core business within the Healthspan Group and focuses on selling vitamins, minerals and supplements to customers based in the United Kingdom and worldwide (except the USA and Canada). Healthspan sells to its customers via its UK-based call centreand online via its website. Healthspan also distributes a magazine to customers (usually bi-monthly)containing articles from nutritionists and doctors along with a monthly product magazine called the Healthspan Directory.
Skincare
Healthspan’s skincare range, trading as ‘Healthspan nurture’, is a range of vitamin-enriched skincare products launched in 2002 by the Healthspan Group. Healthspan nurture also includes ‘nurture replenish’; products all containing plant oestrogens (phytoestrogens) aimed at mature skin. All products from Healthspan nurture are free from animal testing and are dermatologically tested.
Pet Health
Healthspan’s smallest range is VetVits, which focuses on nutritional supplements for cats, dogs and horses. VetVits use glucosamine hydrochloride in it’s joint supplements as opposed to; glucosamine sulphate (where glucosamine sulphate contains less pure glucosamine per gram than Glucosamine hydrochloride).
NutriProfile
NutriProfile is a free service offered by Healthspan. It is a scientifically-validated, personal nutritional profiling tool. The service produces a personalised 24 page analysis from answers given in an online questionnaire covering weight, height and day-to-day diet.
Outside of the healthcare range
Healthspan Leisure is a subsidiary of the Healthspan Group set up in October 2003. Healthspan Leisure is the travel and hotels arm of the group, incorporating a commercial airline (Blue Islands) and two hotels, namely the Fermain Valley Hotel in Guernsey and the Braye Beach Hotel in Alderney. Healthspan Leisure’s headquarters are also at Healthspan House in Guernsey.
